Wood Plate # 45 Alabaster Bowl Guitar Poster
Mbira and Hosho Bass Marimba Max Krimmel

April 2025 - I don’t think I’ve posted any updates to this site for 15 years. It’s time, a lot has changed. In 2022 my partner Bonnie and I moved from our mountain home of 30 some years in Nederland, Colorado, to a retirement community in Boulder. I no longer have a lathe and don’t do any turning. I haven’t made a guitar since 1983 and the remaining guitar wood was sold years ago. Bonnie and I finished up the last of the dulcimer wood in 2022. We gave away most of the forms, tools, and machinery from the shop. WHAT WAS I THINKING!! Do I miss my studio? Of course - but what I really miss is being 50 years old and there’s nothing to be done about that except enjoy the years left. There are still some alabaster bowls left (look here) and some sculpture bases (look here ) contact me if you are interested. I’m not the only one not turning Colorado alabaster anymore, no one is, the stone is no longer available.

Some fun news, the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, AZ has Krimmel Guitar #150 and Bonnie Carol Dulcimer #480 on indefinite display. They’re in separate exhibits and the MIM is huge so have some fun finding them.

I’m leaving most of the site up as history and for whatever use people can make of it.

Got a Krimmel guitar? Send me some pics. I didn’t take the trouble to document all my work back then (film - what a hassle) and I’d love to know where they are, how they are, and who they are with.
